The reopening, in December 2009, of a direct train line between Belgrade and Sarajevo, after almost two decades, was immediately hailed as yet one more sign that times have, indeed, changed. For the starry-eyed observer, it was proof that the process of regional political reconciliation is becoming a success, and that Western Balkans’ socioeconomic ties are being forged anew.
